Literacy Outreach Worker
Our philosophy is that significant advances in literacy can occur when students are coping better with the challenges of daily living. This philosophy has led to one of the unique aspects of our program, our Literacy Outreach Worker (LOW). This individual focuses on developing supportive relationships with students, helping them pursue their goals, and become productive members of their community. Our LOW targets approximately 20% of our students: those who require non-academic supports to persevere in attaining their identified goals.
The LOW provides in-office counseling and accompanies students to mental health, medical, post-secondary, court, and job search appointments. The LOW liaises with over 40 community and social agencies to connect students to a wide range of services.
